Dissemination European Education in Psychotherapy (DEEP)
Following its success in a current project funded by the European Commisssion, Strengthening European Psychotherapy Training through Innovative Methods and Unification of Standards (SEPTIMUS), Dilemma Consultancy is one the successful partners in this further project to develop SEPTIMUS into a full Masters level training course.
Dilemma is currently collaborating with the University of Sheffield in providing the one year SEPTIMUS course for students who additionally register for the one year postgraduate certificate in medical and health sciences at the University. Dilemma will arrange personal therapy and a supervised placement suitable for distance learners on the course.

SEPTIMUS is designed to increase the availability of competent and ethical psychotherapy practitioners. SEPTIMUS will do this by using the framework of the European Certificate of Psychotherapy to accredit prior training and experience; by developing networks of therapists and supervisors and by developing innovative methods of training using the web. SEPTIMUS is funded by the European Commission, in a grant awarded to Digby Tantam, Emmy van Deurzen, Alfred Pritz, Riccardo Zerbetto, Willy Szafran, Ileana Botescu, Ed McHale, Jerzy Aleksandrowicz, Zbynek Vybiral, and Antonio Vasco Branco. Each partner, including the EAP, benefits from a grant for overseeing the development of SEPTIMUS in their own country, and for evaluating its impact.
MA in Existential Counselling and Psychotherapy at the New School of Psychotherapy and Counselling, by distance learning
Dilemma hosted the block teaching for this new format for the MA for the first time in September 2001 and will be doing so again in September 2002. The course is taught by the New School of Psychotherapy and Counselling and accredited by the University of Sheffield. There are further intakes later in this academic year, and if you are interested, contact Claire Arnold-Baker at admin@nspc.org.uk.
Survey of European Psychotherapy Training
The SEPT project, funded by the European Commission and managed jointly by the University of Sheffield and Dilemma Consultancy, has been completed. Interviews were carried out with key informants in 34 European countries. For further details about the project, go to the SEPT website
The partners in the project prepared reports from the interviews, which provide a unique picture of the state of psychotherapy training and provision throughout Europe. They have been published in the International Journal of Psychotherapy. The implications of the survey for the future of psychotherapy in Europe are discussed in a series of papers in a special issue of the European Journal of Counselling, Psychotherapy, and Health.

In addition she has given a keynote speech at the Jungian Association in Nijmegen, the Netherlands, and has given a one day course in existential psychotherapy to clinical psychologists in Viejle Fjord, Denmark. New Publications
The second edition of Emmy's book, Existential Counselling and Psychotherapy in Practice,
has just been published and is already selling rapidly...
Digby's book, Psychotherapy and Counselling in Practice, has also just been published by
Cambridge University Press
Emmy is working on two books currently. Core Concepts in Existential Psychotherapy, written with Raymond Kenward and to be published by Sage, will be the first comprehensive dictionary of the sometimes highly specialized technical language used by existential philosophers and psychotherapists. Emmy is also editing Existential Perspectives on Human Issues with Claire Arnold-Baker, to be published by Palgrave Press (Macmillan). This will be a definitive guide to the application of existential psychotherapy.
Digby is working on Pervasive Developmental Disorders, to be published by Cambridge University Press.
Dilemma starts a new subsidiary: Dilemma Web Design
Dilemma has sponsored, and its new subsidiary, Dilemma Web Design, has created several new webpages. These include pages on the new SEPTIMUS project, on Dilemma's work in conflict and reconciliation, on our work in Asperger syndrome --where professionals can participate in a new network for counsellors-- and, last but not least, on existential psychotherapy with special reference to the contribution of Emmy van Deurzen.
